Avatar

Few days before I went to Malaysia, I went up to Taipei, there I went to watch Avatar 3D. The 3d glasses that we receieved werent those cheap paper ones but actual glasses. They were quite heavy, I had to hold mine up with my hand during the entire movie.

The words to describe Avatar are visually stunning. Not because I had the 3d glasses on, I tried taking it off for a while and watched it. To be honest, Im not sure if the 3d was worth it. During the entire movie, the only thing 3d was the chinese subtitles in my opinion lol... Anyway the computer render made the characters looked real, I dont mean it looked like they were people in costumes. Avatar's graphics is smooth, natural and defined. The amount of details in the 3d rendering was amazing. I hope that one day Aion can achieve that kind of graphics ^-^ But seriously, when it was night time in the movie, it kept reminding of Asmodian land in Aion.

The plot was kind of predictable which disappointed me a little bit. It was a classic case of white people invading native land and it's people for resources then they start having a battle. I was watching a Taiwan political channel on tv 2 days ago and their topic of debate was Avatar. I was like how is Avatar related to politics?? So I watched a little bit. They talked about how advanced the Avatar graphics was and how Taiwan can compete with it. They suggested that Taiwan and China should join together and produce something with Avatar's standards but better storyline to compete in the global movie industry. I thought that point was nicely made then the rest they said was just bs so I stopped watching. A thing about tw is that anything can be turned into politics, it's crazy lol...
Nevertheless Avatar is a film which made a breakthrough in 3d render movies. Which means that in the future we can hope to see better and realistic 3d movies.

Clannad Review

There will be many updates coming due to my long absence. At the moment I am trying to finish what I started 2 weeks ago hence the big article time gap but connecting story.

Anyway moving on, I finished watching the entire Clannad anime. My rating for it is 9/10 . Highly recommended and it has moved up to be one of my favourite anime. There are two main reasons why I like this anime. First, the story, Clannad's story is nothing fancy, just things which happens in school and everyday life. Yet the stories for each character have so much meanings within them. Since the stories are something we can relate to easily, like looking after siblings or helping friends at school, they are really easy to understand and enjoyable to watch. The second reason is emotion, as I mentioned last time. This anime is very emotional, laughter, tears, embarrassment, disgusted, its all in there.

The music for this anime is good overall. The background music corresponds with the story well and the openings and endings are nice. Just depends if you like them or not, I quite like them, except for the dango song lol, a bit plain. The graphics and drawings are really nicely done, I really like how they draw the settings, looks realistic for an anime. I find the scenes are colourful, nice to watch. The only thing I have against Clannad is the characters are too cute but then again if they werent that cute, they probably wouldnt be able to pull off some of the cute stuff they did.

My favourite character, the blonde guy Sunohara Youhei!

I liked season 1 better than season 2, simply because it was funnier not because season 2 was boring or anything. I enjoy comedy above all else. I dont like writing plots I give reviews because I dont like to accidently spoil it for some people. Like saying during this bit, I felt sad, during that part, it sucked. That is why my reviews might seem a bit short.

4 Days Disappearance - Day 4

After breakfast at the hotel, we went further up the mountain. Because we were one of the few tourists there that day so we decided to teach my sister how to drive since there were no cars on the road anyway. She was lucky, she got to start driving on mountain roads, when I was learning I had to start from a car park!

At the mountains

When we reached the top, there was a fairly big pond there. The people called it Sky Pond, it was said that the water in that pond never dries up even in dry season due to some spiritual force. When we arrived there it was around 10am and the surface of the pond still had a layer of thin ice on it. I guess the reason the water never dries up is because of the low temperature there also the pond is surrounded by trees so the sunlight can not reach it directly. The moisture level on the mountain is also quite high so I think that is how the pond keeps getting it's water supply.

The Sky Pond

Afterwards we head back, packed our things and started our journey home. I volunteered to drive again and man it was fun. Going downhill with all those turns, felt like Tokyo Drift except with no drifting. My dad then decided to take us to a water park since we had nothing else planned might as well. On our way to the water park, we stumbled upon a scare crow display. The scare crows were made by the local prison, it was quite pro to be honest.

Break dancing frogs and me eating...again

We then carried on to the water park. The main purpose of the park is swimming, there are many pools and fountains for kids to play. However it's winter right now so the pools were empty . There are also bikes for hire, boat rides, the park is quite big. We had little time left so we just circled the park then carried our journey home.

Ahoy there

4 Days Disappearance - Day 3

Day 3 was the main purpose of the trip, a trip to 福壽山農場 Fushou mountain farm. The mountain is near the middle of tw but since it is all mountain road, the entire drive was about 7 hours. We had to wake up early to avoid the traffic so for the first 1/3 of the drive I was sleeping :P Then after I felt refreshed, I offered to drive, we were already in the mountains at that time. Luckily my dad agreed, it was my first time driving in the mountains. The road always turn and curve, sometime it is not wide enough for two cars but none of this was dangerous compared to what was installed for me. Fog.

I drove right into the fog (actually it's not like I could avoid it, there was only one path LOL) and geez it was scary. I couldnt see what was 15m ahead of me, if I wasnt careful I could've drove the car off the cliff when I was suppose to turn. Then luckily I caught up to a red car and it made the trip a lot easier. Because I did not have to be the scout, I did not have to make life and death decisions of whether to turn or not, I just followed his red tail lights :P However we had to go really slow, we did not exceed 20kmh. The fog was so thick that if I fell behind a few seconds, his tail lights would just disappear.

After 30-45mins we finally emerged from the white world. The grass looked greener, sky looked bluer, all was good. Then at last we have arrived at the farm. Although it's called a farm, it does have accomodation, like pretty good accomodation, not like shacks or anything like that. We then took a tour around the farm. The farm specialised in fruit trees and tea. It was so cold up on the mountain, although it didnt snow, it did get to 3 degrees that night. The dinner at their place was exceptionally delicious, maybe cause we were cold and hungry or they were simply good cooks.

4 Days Disappearance - Day 2

The second day, we went to Taipei zoo. Like any other place in tw, it was crowded, we waited like 45mins just to get into the parking area. It then started to rain after we got out of the car. Then when we got to the ticket selling area, they said that panda viewing is no longer available since the ticket for it already ran out. But we were still like whatever and went inside the zoo.

My...precious...

:D:D

For those who has seen the movie I Spy, thats the leafy bug.

What you looking at?

I used to like zoos cause it was cool to see all kinds of animals but after this trip, Im starting to feel different. The animals are all confined in that little area, they got nothing to do other than sleep, eat. What is the point of walking around if you only got that much space. That is why when you see the animals, they just lay there, looking all bored. I'll rather watch Discovery channel to see animals in action, at places where they belong.

4 Days Disappearance - Day 1

Our destination for the first day was Taipei, north of Taiwan, I live in Kaohsiung which is south of Taiwan. It is about a 7 hours drive from Kaohsiung to Taipei. Along the way I was allowed to drive, just helping my dad out, taking turns while one of us sleeps. It was cool cause here the highest speed on the motorway is 110kmh, 10kmh faster than nz, yeah! I only drove on the motorway since I was afraid to drive in the cities. There are bikes, scooters(heaps, they weave around the cars like bugs), people walking on the side of the road(since there arent many footpath in tw) and cars which dont follow giveway rules(there is no such thing as giveway in tw, not even to pedestrians so it is always cars cross first then people).

Along the way, we stopped at 鹿港(Lugan) to visit a famous shrine called 天后宮(I guess the direction translation would be Sky Empress Palace). On the way in, there are food stores on both side of the road. It was crowded and lively, many food selections to choose from. In tw, the biggest religion in buhdism so nearly everyone goes to these shrine and temples and pray for good luck. The way people pray is lighting this stick thing which gives off smoke and the smoke will reach the gods. I think the proper term is offering incense. We also burned paper money for tribute.

Taiwan's 2010 - Taiwan Up???

So some people realised that I had disappeared for a while and now I'll tell you where I had gone off to XD But before that, I'll show you guys how Taiwan celebrated the arrival of 2010. Some of you might know that the ex-tallest building in the world was in Taiwan, the Taipei 101. (The tallest is now in Dubai, officially took over like 2 days ago). Yeah well on Jan 1st, it was still the tallest lol. Therefore all eyes from around the world were watching what kind of fireworks could the tallest building pull off. Here it is:

This was definately the best out of all their previous attempts, I remember two years ago, I went under Taipei 101 to watch it live and it was just a massive explosion and then thick smoke and it was over lol... But the thing which annoyed me was the words "Taiwan UP" I mean wtf does that mean LOL. People around the world were watching it and no one really understood it. Well it is suppose to mean like hope for Taiwan to rise up in the world or keep it up Taiwan but couldnt they just write GO Taiwan or something like that? The media interviewed foreigners who lives in tw and they all said they watched the fireworks but did not understand the words. To me, a Taiwanese, this is embarassing.
